The AA were lucky enough to recently attend the launch of the new big and brawny Silverado range. Since the launch of the new GM Specialty Vehicles brand in New Zealand in November 2020, more than 250 of the impressive new trucks have been sold around the country. Perhaps you have seen one of these monsters driving past you and done a double take.
No wonder New Zealanders purchase on average four new Chevrolet Silverado vehicles a week, they are perfect as both a hardworking truck and for the more leisurely lifestyle pursuits.
What’s on offer?
There are three different Silverado models available in New Zealand, two offer a sizable 6.2-litre V8 and the new 2500 Heavy Duty packs a 6.6-litre V8 Duramax turbo-diesel powerplant. All engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The petrol models create a huge 313kW of power, whereas the forte for the HD is the 1234Nm of torque on tap, which makes it perfect for more heavy applications.
Interior
Standard features across the range include heated leather seats, cruise control, reverse camera, and Duel- Zone automatic climate control. The media screen is configured to use the Android Auto or Apple CarPlay systems so once you connect your device navigation is easy, intuitive and up to date.
The Silverado is very spacious indeed and features convenient grab handles on the A-pillars which aid with hauling yourself into the high cabin. Another great feature in this expansive cabin is the middle centre console - it’s very spacious and wide meaning you can store bulkier bags.
The newest model, the Heavy Duty, quite literally commands attention thanks to its sheer size and imposing appearance. While the LT Trail Boss is winning fans over with its near 2-inch lift and mud-terrain tyres for off-road enthusiasts.
However, their most popular model by quite some stretch, is the Silverado LTZ Premium. Many customers purchase this model for its versatility and interior comforts, it’s also perfect for towing boats or caravans on the weekend with its 3500kg towing capacity. Plus, Tradies love it to help haul their tools and equipment.
