On the banks of the Waikato River, just north of Lake Taupō, you’ll find the unique attraction of Huka Prawn Park.
Using energy from the neighbouring geothermal power station to heat water from the river to 26ºC, the park creates the perfect environment for breeding and growing tropical prawns.
Huka Prawn Park is the only place in New Zealand where you can witness the lifecycle of prawn breeding and hand-feed baby prawns.
Spend the day at the park to enjoy the many activities on offer – from riding an aqua trike or paddling a SUP across the prawn ponds, to touring the aquarium and nursery, soaking in the geothermal foot bath or dining in the only alfresco riverside restaurant in Taupō.
