Titirangi Golf Club, New Zealand’s only Dr Alister MacKenzie designed golf course is set in suburban Auckland, between the lower slopes of the Waitakere Ranges and the Manukau Harbour.
Founded in 1909, it is a private members’ club that also offers playing opportunities for visitors. A product of one of golf’s all-time best designers, Titirangi is regarded as one of New Zealand’s top courses. MacKenzie’s designs are notable for their sensitivity to the original site and he is admired for producing holes that offer an ideal balance of risk and reward. After designing Titirangi in 1927, MacKenzie went on to design some of the world’s top courses including Augusta, Cypress Point and Royal Melbourne.
Conceived in 1914, MacKenzie re-designed the course in 1927 to make it both an outstanding test of golf and a truly beautiful place to play the game.
He called the land "exceptionally well adapted for golf, undulating, without being hilly.“
The course is well protected, favouring shot makers and featuring Dr MacKenzie’s signature bunkering. Elevated tees, rolling fairways, challenging bunkers and greens with pronounced undulations ensure that while shorter than courses built today, it’s still challenging. Its par 3’s face the four points of the compass, so no matter the weather conditions, you’ll experience a different test on each hole.
Titirangi Golf Club has a long history of hosting great players from all over the world and has been the venue for many international tournaments, including the New Zealand Open Championship.
The par 70 course has five sets of tees ranging from 4,832 – 6,016 metres and offers club rental, push carts and golf carts. Instruction is also available, and the onsite restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch.
