  • Do I need my own vehicle for the In-Vehicle session of the Defensive Driving Course (DDC)?

    If you are unable to use your own car for the In-vehicle session you can discuss this with your tutor during your DDC course and they will help you organise the use of a car.

  • What is a Warrant of Fitness (WoF)?

    A Warrant of Fitness is a regular check to ensure your car is safe to drive on the road. It’s compulsory for light vehicles (cars, station wagons, vans, 4WDs, SUVs, light trucks), trailers and motorcycles.

  • What is checked in a WoF inspection?

    As a WoF agent, AA Auto Centres follow the vehicle inspection requirements manual (VIRM) in which requirements are defined and monitored by NZ Transport Association. The Warrant of Fitness inspection includes tyre condition, brake operation, structural condition, lights, doors and windows, windscreen washers and wipers, safety belts and airbags, speedometer, steering and suspension and exhaust and fuel system.

  • Can a private individual import a car?

    Yes. A private person can import a car. It is the importer’s responsibility to provide documents to prove that they are legally entitled to the car and to which standards the car was built to.

  • What is the criteria vehicles need to meet?

    There must be acceptable evidence that systems and components such as, brakes, tyres, lights, seats, seat mountings, seatbelts, seatbelt mountings, glazing, rear vision, interior impact, external projections, door retention, frontal impact, exhaust emissions etc are manufactured to precisely defined standards.

  • Can I import a LHD car?

    Under some limited circumstances LHD vehicles can be imported, however there are strict guidelines including meeting the classic/vintage car criteria, being a specialist vehicle that was never built as RHD etc. You can also refer to NZTA Factsheet 12.

  • What are your interest rates?

    AA Finance’s fixed annual interest rates range from 9.95% to 15.95%. The rate charged will depend on your personal circumstances taking into account:

    • how much you want to borrow
    • the term of your loan
    • your income
    • your other financial commitments, and
    • your credit history
