  • Will the AA Vehicle History Report always show if the odometer has been wound?

No, the AA Vehicle History Report contains odometer readings currently available from NZTA, and analyses these for inconsistent readings. However, some older vehicles haven't had all their odometer readings recorded by the NZTA. While the AA Vehicle History Report identifies whether the odometer may have been tampered with, it can't determine whether an odometer was wound back prior to arriving in New Zealand. Therefore the AA Vehicle History Report can't guarantee the vehicle's odometer hasn't been wound.

Therefore vehicles with live registrations in 1988 onwards will be on the current system. A small number of records were deleted by NZ Post between 1986 and 1988, however most 1986 live registrations should be available.
