This year the Royal New Zealand Ballet soars into another world of ballet adventures. From the cosmic wonder of The Firebird to the gentle sparkle of The Nutcracker, here's what’s coming up for 2025.

SCOTTISHThe Royal New Zealand Ballet with Scottish Ballet:

14 – 15 March

Scottish Ballet visits New Zealand for the first time in 2025 to share the stage for three Wellington-only performances. The combined companies will be showcasing contemporary works that are unique to them both.

FIREBIRDThe Firebird with My Brilliant Career:

30 April – 1 June

Loughlan Prior’s The Firebird – a fairytale about a desert world where water is infinitely precious – was a huge hit for the RNZB in 2021, but this year will be the first time the show has been performed in the South Island. Expect stunning designs, immersive projections by POW Studios and Prior’s expressive choreography all set to Stravinsky’s epic score.

EARTHWINDFIREHome, Land and Sea:

24 July – 9 August

Home, Land and Sea presents three intriguing ballets inspired by journeys in unknown seas and exploring what it means to come home. Created by Moss Te Ururangi Patterson, Home, Land and Sea was crafted for six dancers from the RNZB and six from the New Zealand Dance Company.

NUTCRACKERThe Nutcracker:

30 October – 20 December

One of the world’s most beloved ballet classics, The Nutcracker, returns for summer 2025. A timeless celebration of Christmas, family, fantasy and growing up. This year’s performance will have a uniquely Kiwi touch, evoking the nostalgia of childhood holidays at the beach, the snowy Southern Alps and a fairytale Kingdom of the Sweets.
