The 2025 season
New Zealand Opera's 2025 season is a celebration of the human singing voice, showcasing some of the absolute finest opera artists from Aotearoa and around the world. From the Regency-period high drama of Mansfield Park and the timeless beauty of La Boheme to the bold, community-inclusive adventure of The Monster in the Maze, whether you're already an opera lover or you're just planning to dip your toe in this magnificent artform, this season has something to please absolutely everyone.
Mansfield Park
Following its smash-hit 2024 debut in Auckland and Wellington, this intimate adaptation of the Jane Austen classic will see its first-ever performances in Te Waipounamu this Autumn – April 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Ōtautahi, then April 5th and 6th in Ōtepoti. Boasting an all-local cast, including Michaela Cadwgan as Fanny Price, a trip to Mansfield Park is one you won't soon forget.
La Bohème
Few tales are as widely and deeply beloved as Puccini's tragic tale of love and loss in Paris' bohemian quarter – and with 10 performances of La Bohème across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, you'll soon have a chance to see what all the fuss is about. Starring talented Australian soprano Elena Perroni (Rigoletto) and the wonderful Ji-Min Park in his Aotearoa debut, as well as the long-awaited return of New Zealand's own Benson Wilson, the 2025 season of La Bohème promises grand opera at its sumptuous, heartrending best.
The Monster In The Maze
Faced with adversity, could you find your way home? Directed by Anapela Polataivao ONZM (Red White and Brass, Wild Dogs Under My Skirt) in her NZ Opera debut and performed in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland, The Monster in the Maze will see a talented cast joined by the NZ Opera Chorus and community choirs, as well as community orchestras playing alongside professional musicians from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Auckland Philharmonia. Based in the classic myth of the Minotaur, this community-centred piece is opera as you've never heard it before
