ŠKODA OCTAVIA iV: Best-seller now comes with a plug-in hybrid electric drive

The OCTAVIA has been at the heart of the ŠKODA brand for more than six decades and has established itself as a key pillar of the brand’s ongoing success. The OCTAVIA iV is just the second ŠKODA model to be available as a plug-in hybrid, and the first in the RS family, combining the best of electric and conventional cars.

The OCTAVIA iV is available in the Style and RS models and will arrive in dealerships throughout November 2021.

Engine, battery, and charging

The OCTAVIA iV is equipped with a 1.4L TSI petrol engine, offering 110kW. The electric motor generates up to 85kW, with a combined system power of 150kW and maximum torque output of 350Nm. The battery has a capacity of 13kWh and is located under the floor in the back of the car, powering a drive of approximately 60km. When completely empty, the battery takes approximately seven hours to fully charge from home on a conventional electrical grid.

While driving in Hybrid mode, the electronic control unit is continuously assessing the driving situation and offers the option of charging the battery via recuperation whilst the car is moving. The vehicle tops up the battery using the petrol engine and brake energy recovery.

To alert pedestrians that a car is coming, an eSound acoustic system is activated. The system runs while driving in pure electric mode at speeds of up to 25km/h, when driving forward, and up to 10km/h when reversing.

10” infotainment system

Both variants come standard with the ‘COLUMBUS’ 10” touchscreen infotainment system which can be touch, gesture or voice controlled. The system allows you to check the cars battery status, set up purely electrical drive, or choose a drive with full system power. Accompanying the infotainment system is navigation and SmartLink+ including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with wireless smartphone charging. A touch slider is located under the system with a zoom function for maps or to control the volume.

Exterior

The OCTAVIA iV has been given a new sharper front grille with LED headlights, daytime driving lights and fog lights as standard. The taillights have also been replaced with LEDs with an animated turn signal. A virtual pedal for contactless opening of the tailgate comes standard accompanied by ‘KESSY’ with 5 door sensors and motion sensor, electrically adjustable heated and folding exterior mirrors and sunset tint for the rear windows all come standard. The Style variant also comes with 17-inch ‘ROTARE AERO’ silver alloys as standard and 18-inch ‘COMET’ black alloys with bright machining for the RS variant.

Interior

Inside the OCTAVIA iV are the standard comfort seats with fabric and leather upholstery in the Style variant, while the RS comes with sports seats in fabric and Alcantara upholstery. Electronic adjustable front seats with lumbar support and a memory feature come standard for both variants. Both the Style and RS feature keyless engine start/stop, electronic child safety locks, shift-by-wire selector with park button, dual zone automatic air-conditioning and ambient lighting.

Some of the many Simply Clever features include the umbrella located in the driver’s door, the hook and cargo fasteners to hold boot luggage in place, and a variable boot floor to deliver additional storage space or conceal any valuables.

There is a total of five USB-C ports in the car – two in the front, two in the rear and one in the rear-view mirror. A dedicated storage compartment for the charging cable is found in the boot.

The first electrified RS

At the heart of the OCTAVIA iV RS – the first of the RS family to be offered with a plug-in drivetrain – is a petrol and electric power unit, fine-tuned to deliver a sporty and engaging driving experience. The 1.4L TSI petrol engine combined with the electric motor offers an enhanced power output of 180kW, alongside an increased maximum torque output of 400Nm. The RS iV is equipped with a six-speed DSG transmission and shift-by-wire technology.

The design of the OCTAVIA iV RS is almost identical to its petrol-only sibling. The exterior displays unique front and rear bumper designs, including the double-slat radiator grille, lower air diffuser and the distinctive air curtains above the front fog lights. Door mirror housings, roof rails and window frames are also finished in gloss black.

Inside the iV RS are heated sports seats upholstered in black fabric Alcantara with a black headlining to further enhance the sophisticated interior ambience. The distinctive RS logo is displayed on the seats, steering wheel, armrests, and instrument panel. Carbon optic decorative strips, LED ambient lighting and aluminium pedals complete the RS’s interior design package.

Other technologies fitted are Matrix BI-LED headlights with LED daytime lights and fog lights, Progressive Steering and XDS+ Front Differential Lock System.
