The Mustang Mach-E incorporates several design cues that pay homage to the classic Mustang. The strong and sloping shoulder line, which extends from the headlights to the rear taillights, echoes the coupe-like profile of the Mustang. The fastback-style roofline further enhances its sporty and dynamic presence.

The Mustang Mach-E features flush door handles that integrate seamlessly into the bodywork. • A clean and minimalist design, emphasising a sense of modernity. The dashboard has a sleek and uncluttered appearance, with smooth lines and premium materials contributing to an upscale atmosphere.
• Soft-touch surfaces, high-quality upholstery, and refined trims create a premium feel throughout the cabin.
• Well-designed seats that offer comfort and support for both short commutes and long roadies. The front seats may come with power-adjustable settings, including lumbar support and heating/cooling features, providing a personalised and comfortable seating experience.

The intuitive interface and high-resolution display enhance the user experience. The Mustang Mach-E replaces traditional analogue gauges with a fully digital instrument cluster. This customisable display provides essential driving information, such as speed, battery status, and range, in a clear and easy-to-read format. Drivers can personalize the information and choose from different display themes.
• The Mustang Mach-E offers practicality with its boot space. It features a rear trunk and a front trunk, also known as a frunk. These storage compartments provide ample space for carrying luggage, groceries, or other items. Additionally, the rear seats can be folded down to expand the boot capacity further.

Putting the Mach-E to the test

It was a short drive down to Hampton Downs, where we were updated by the heads of Ford New Zealand about their vision and plan for the Mustang Mach-E. Then, we had the chance to test the electric horse and wow did it bolt out of the stable and not look back.

The team at down force had us putting it through its paces. First was a set of slaloms and on my first pass I held back a bit only to be told by one of the down force instructors it wasn’t enough tyre squealing!

Our next challenge was to test out the stability, control and safety features. This is where I pushed out of my comfort zone and at this point, I had to trust the team and the vehicle. We were instructed to drive flat out up to 75km in a straight line into a coned area that closed in very fast. We were then told to release the throttle and not to touch the break (harder than you think) to do a swerve around into a make-believe stop vehicle. The vehicle handled itself amazingly and as we guided gracefully passed all the cones leaving them all standing, I felt a real bond with this vehicle.

Performance

The Mustang Mach-E is powered by an electric powertrain, which means it offers instant torque and smooth acceleration from a standstill. It delivers a thrilling and responsive driving experience.

Ford offers different powertrain configurations for the Mustang Mach-E, allowing drivers to choose the level of performance that suits their preferences. These options include rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants. The AWD versions provide enhanced traction and handling, particularly in challenging road conditions.

The Mustang Mach-E accelerates quickly, thanks to its electric motors. The Mustang Mach-E offers different driving modes to cater to various driving scenarios and preferences. These modes can adjust factors such as throttle response, steering feel, and suspension settings, allowing drivers to optimise their driving experience for efficiency, comfort, or sportiness.

The Mustang Mach-E utilises regenerative braking technology, which helps to recharge the battery while decelerating or braking. This feature enhances efficiency and extends the vehicle's range by converting some of the kinetic energy back into electric power.

Ford has designed the Mustang Mach-E to offer a dynamic driving experience with responsive handling and precise steering. The battery pack’s low center of gravity contributes to improved stability and agility, allowing the vehicle to navigate corners with confidence.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E provides a combination of electric power, quick acceleration, ample range, and engaging driving dynamics. Its performance-oriented nature, combined with the benefits of electric propulsion, makes it an exciting option for those seeking a thrilling and eco-friendly driving experience.

Safety

The Mustang Mach-E incorporates advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to enhance safety and convenience. These features may include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring, among others. They contribute to a confident and secure driving experience.

Cost

The Mustang Mach-E RWD is available at dealerships now starting from $79,990 + ORC and it is eligible for $8,625 Clean Car rebate as well.
The RWD comes with a 75.7kWh battery and has a range of up to 440km. The second option is the Mach-E AWD which comes equipped with a 98.7kWh battery and has a range of 540km. The price for the AWD starts from $109,990 + ORC and it is not eligible for a rebate.

Lastly, the NZ market is blessed with the Mach-E GT AWD. The battery is 98.7kWh and can a range of up to 500km. The Mach-E GT makes the most of its front and rear electric motor because it produces a combined 357kW and 860Nm, this means that the Mach-E GT can go 0 to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds. The Mach-E GT price is set at $124,990 + ORC and there is no Clean car rebate with the price tag.
