Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S 2015 car review

After test driving the new C 63 S, it now sits high on my bucket list of cars to own. Its performance, style, luxury, safety and growling exhaust are all first-class. Viewed at any angle, this car ticks all the boxes for me but there’s certainly more than meets the eye.

The C 63 S shows off diamond white optioned paint with black accentuations, a panoramic sunroof, large aggressive front grille and air ducts. This is all finished off with a subtle rear boot lip and LED tail lamps that look stunning at night. The luxurious AMG interior is finished off nicely with Red Pepper highlights in the seats and door trim.

A higher standard

Boasting the most comprehensive standard equipment inclusions yet, this car will surprise and excite just like every other C 63 before it. The standard equipment includes the AMG Ride Control sports suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, electronic rear locking differential and the AMG Dynamic Select drive programs.

A new feature to whet your appetite, which is also unique to Mercedes in the competitive field, is the dynamic engine mounts. Whilst these were also featured in the AMG GT, the dynamic engine mounts can adapt engine stiffness and ensure a smoother drive in a fraction of a second when there’s a change in driving conditions or style. They are designed to address the conflict of interest between comfort and handling by reducing vibration from the engine/transmission unit.

You just can’t resist

Powered by AMG’s 4.0 ltr Bi-turbo V8 engine, the C 63 S can produce a whopping 510hp and accelerates 0-100 in just 4.0 seconds. Select sport plus mode, turn on the loud exhaust and hold on tight because the acceleration is amazing. When backing off the acceleration the car pops out the exhaust and it also revs up during gear downshifts. This made me smile every time and I’d brake just to hear another downshift. My wife just looked at me and rolled her eyes.

On the other hand, the 63 S is a very stylish, comfortable and quiet 4-door sedan. When you finally calm down and stop booting it everywhere, it’s also surprisingly conservative on fuel.

The Mercedes AMG C 63 S is available in sedan from $164,900 and estate from $167,900.
