The vehicle had a simple layout with easy-to-use cruise control. In fact, there are many settings and features available that can, and should be customised to fully optimise and personalise your driving experience, even down to choosing the sound your indicator makes. There’s a generous 9.2” high definition reverse camera with parking sensors and large, well-positioned rear view mirrors which made up for what is a fairly small rear window.
The vehicle had good torque when initially accelerating however power didn’t last very long on the hill section of our course. The Rexton slowly accelerated from 50 km/h to 80km/h at 4000rpm. Manually selecting gears with the toggle switch on the side of the gear stick seemed to be prohibitive at times too. Performance on uneven surfaces was acceptable, although it’s always a tricky balancing act with a luxury SUV as the suspension often feels a bit soft. On the motorway the trailer produced a little sway and, when taking corners, we felt less confident than on the straights – however it was manageable.
The Ssangyong Rexton range offers a lot of features and a luxury appearance at an attractive price point. The infotainment system was pleasant with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There was generous cabin room too - seven seats, in total - so a great people carrier. It may have been more comfortable with a lighter load, but the boat we towed was well within its specifications.
Thanks to SeaCraft Miller Moyes for the test boat & trailer.
