You wrote in a previous Q & A that a class 6 Motorcycle licence was required to ride a trike in NZ.
I have seen a company offering motorcycle tours with trikes and claiming that a class 6 license was not required.
Can you please clarify this as I am looking at purchasing a trike and do not have a class 6 motorcycle license.

A very interesting question.
I phoned the touring company concerned about this and was told their Can-Am Spyder three-wheeler is in fact registered as a car.
Other trikes are registered as motorbikes which require riders to have a class 6 license.
It gets a little complicated but while the trike is initially complied as a motor tricycle (LE2) there is an option via NZTA for it to be registered as a car.
I must say this took us by surprise but the touring company is absolutely correct.
As luck would have it, I followed a Can-Am Spyder along the Northern Motorway a few days ago. A beautiful looking machine I have to say.
