I have just arrived from the UK and bought my mini cooper with me. I have now registered the car but the NZ plates are too small. I am told I can either drill my car (no thank you) or have new plates made. Is there another alternative whereby I can slot the NZ plate into a device which is fitted onto my car? Do you know where I could obtain this device - I can't seem to find any help on this at all. Thanks

Surprisingly the Mini dealership we rang simply said they'd recommend the 'drill into the body' option which you have already discounted.

Your best option in my view is to ring Personalised Plates (0800 752 837 www.plates.co.nz) and order a Euro plate which should fit straight onto your vehicle.

The $399 price tag may sound like a lot of money but if you want the plates to fit and you don't want to drill into the body, then it may be the best way.

To get something made to suit the car may be cheaper, but finding somebody to carry out the job will be almost impossible and I doubt it will ever look as good.
