I have a 1999 BMW320i that I have owned for one year. I am moving to Australia and would like to take the car with me. Can you tell me what I need to do and what sort of costs I need to consider.

Australia has different used vehicle importation rules than we have in NZ. Therefore the most important step is to check with the Australian authorities on whether the vehicle meets the necessary compliance regulations.

It will need to meet what is called ADR (Australian Design Rules) and depending on which country the vehicle was first registered in as new, it may not qualify for importation into Australia.

The best advise I can give is to contact the Australian Automobile Association and ask for their assistance.
