I would like to bring my old land rover 90 into New Zealand temporarily for touring if possible: What classes as a classic vehicle (how old)?

How is this affected by any modifications and improvements to it if the work is done by a bonafide mechanic here in the uk (ie: no longer like factory standard- set up for touring)? Many thanks for your advice.

If you intend using the Landrover to tour around NZ on a temporary basis you need to make contact with the NZAA equivalent in the UK.

They can issue what is called a 'Carnet De Passage En Douane' (Carnet). In brief it means a temporary permit to drive a car in a overseas country such as NZ on its UK registration plates.

The vehicle needs to be road legal in its home country and must pass a roadworthiness inspect on arrival in NZ before starting your adventure.

The Carnet allows you to use the vehicle for a period of one year.

Make contact with the UK AA to find out more.
