I want to buy a car, and know the registration number.

How can I find out if it has had a replacement engine fitted already if I can't view the ownership papers?

What you can do is an AA Vehicle History Report.

This will give a history on the vehicle in terms of money owing, has it been reported stolen, WoF history etc.

It will also provide you with the engine number when the vehicle was first registered.

The reports cost $20 for a AA member and $25 for a non member.

Reports are instant via the AA website if you have a credit card for payment.
