I am soon to register an old racing car.

Are there rules relating to painting the number plate onto the car both front and rear, and if so, can you point me in the direction of the specific Act that spells these rules out?

The text below is taken from the Transport (Vehicle Licensing and Driver Registration and Licensing ) Act 1986 Section 17© (word for word)

It is an offence if a person;

Uses any Motor Vehicle which has affixed to it any registration plate or licence which is not authorised by or under the act to be affixed to that vehicle or any other item which in either case is likely to be mistaken for any authorised registration plate of licence.

Excuse the way it is written, legal language no doubt.

Don't like your chances is my interpretation.

Section 14 describes by way of gazetted notice, the size, form, colour and characters of letters numbers etc.
