On a Sunday a couple of weeks ago the local school gala consumed every available park within a couple of few hundred metres of my home.... no problem I have off street parking and garages but when I reached my house there was a visitor on my driveway obstructing the garage entry.

I parked behind them on the driveway and went inside so I could my my visitor to move their car so I could get into the garage.

Returning a couple of minutes later I had been given a parking ticket for obstructing the footpath for 1 minute!

I duly sent an explanation request to Auckland Transport and after two weeks got there standard "pay up reply"... I sure they did not even read my explanation?

I accept that the rear of the car slightly projected into the crossing / footpath...although there was plenty of room (maybe 1.5m) with the berm for pedestrians users, but the wheels were on my driveway and there was clearly no safety or damage issue.

I'm thinking of contesting in court either by the written/guilt with extenuating circumstances but I really don't feel guilty at all...

Please could you give some guidance...

Thanks

You may not park your vehicle in a manner where it obstructs a footpath – the road code clearly states this. You have admitted that your vehicle was projected into the footpath and therefore the ticket is valid.
