I had may brakes repaired as follows:
26 June 2012 Rear drum brakes with new rear cylinder and new brake shoes.
18 August 2012 Front disc brakes new front pads and rotors.
Work was done by a Brake & Clutch repairer(recommended by local AA Testing Station)
Should my brakes experience a squeaking noise when I lightly apply the brakes after such an unreasonably short time?

There are a lot of different makes of brake pads/material and rotors available on the market and while they will all do the job of stopping the vehicle relatively well, some brake pads and rotors (especially the budget type) can display an amount of noise - also, some brake pads have a lot of metallic compound in the brake material which can cause a high frequency noise. Like most things you get what you pay for. But this might not be the case with your vehicle.

You should take it back to the repairer to get checked as the brakes might need a good clean/adjustment or the sliding components might need some cleaning.

Good comment Donavan, I normally replace the pads myself, Repco offer three types of disc pads, and the cheapest available do not last very long, and wear out relatively quickly, I recall the cheapest pads lasting about 20,000k (after one year approx) before hearing the tell tale squealing, I now do use the mid range pads for longevity.

The squealing may be the copper warning device indicating low pad material.
