I was travelling home last night around 10.45pm on the Southern Motorway when I was pulled over by the Police and issued an infringement notice for travelling 115km/h.

I was travelling in a stream of traffic and upon pointing this out to the Officer was advised that the Radar fixed on my vehicle and therefore I was the person he pulled over.

Upon checking the ticket this morning I notice that the wrong registration number of the vehicle has been written on the ticket.

My question is, do I have to pay the fine as the information on the ticket is incorrect?.

You will need to write to the Police Infringement Bureau as outlined at the back of the infringement notice pointing out the error. If my memory serves me right there is also a 0800 number you can ring.

The problem for you is this; if the authorities decided not to let you off and you wanted to challenge this in court, what are you going to say if you were asked 'were you pulled over by a traffic officer on this date, time and location etc for speeding'.

I suspect the judge may say yes, there has been an error made by the officer but you still have to pay the fine.

Definitely worth a phone call or a letter but don't expect to be let off in my opinion.
