Hi there,
Is there some kind of law in NZ that prohibits one to purchase a vehicle from an RMVD if he/she currently only holds a restricted license ?

I currently hold a restricted license and have done so for the past 2 years. I plan on taking the full test near the end of the year when I am less busy with work during the week.

However I am planning to purchase a vehicle to replace my current one (my 1st car) since it's not holding up too well structurally (little rust spots here and there).

So are RMVD (or rmvt ) required legally to only sell vehicles to full license holder ?

Extra info if needed : I am 23 years old and will be the one paying in full for the vehicle.

Yes you can and you can even buy a car without a driver's licence as long as you are 15 years or older and have a recognised form of identification. However, you will need a restricted/full licence to complete the change of registered person for the motor vehicle (This is normally wrongly named as change of ownership). The registered person is not necessary the owner of the vehicle - the owner is the person who has a receipt of purchase in their name. And obviously you will need the correct type of licence to drive the vehicle.
