If you lend your car to another person and they incur traffic and parking fines which come back to you as the registered owner, are you liable or is there a way of having these fines transferred to the person who was driving the car at the time?

The driver of the vehicle is liable for any fines incurred whilst using the vehicle. If you receive a notice as the owner, you can reply to the authority who issued the infringement with the drivers details and an infringement will be issued to them.

Making contact with the person concerned yourself asking them to pay the fine would be the easiest way to try and sort this out initially.

If the infringement was to do with the vehicle itself such as overdue WoF or registration, they would still be liable for the fine, but may come back to you as the owner for compensation.

If the driver fails to pay the fine, then you as the owner will be liable at the end of the day.
