My daughter took her car to vinz Maukau for a warrant, the inspector gave her a pass for a warrant but failed her for unequalised rear brakes. I have taken the car to two different mechanics both of whom can not find anything wrong with the brakes. Can you advise?

You say the car passed the WoF but failed on rear brakes, so I presume you mean the car failed the WoF?
As Testing Stations use brake rollers, they can check the balance from side to side, whereas some small garages may only have a Tapley meter to check the brakes, which cannot check the balance.
I presume it was the foot brakes that failed, or is it the hand brake (or both)? Also, what type of car is it?
There are a number of possible causes. Have the mechanics dismantled the brakes to check the linings, wheel cylinders etc? Also, brake hoses can sometimes fail internally, restricting hydraulic pressure.
Please provide some further detail (as above) and we may have some other suggestions.

Interestingly enough I have had the same problem and it was fixed by my local garage, It was an unequal brake pressure on the rear brakes, the car I owned was a 1992 model, and it had drum brakes on the rear, from memory it was a relativity simple task, just possibly I am thinking it was the hand brake cable that was not engaging fully on one side...therefore unequal, it was not a serious problem but I did fail the WOF, I hope this comment is helpful
