Hi,
My wife and I are Kiwi's living in South Africa - we are the directors of a children's home over here. Some sponsors from the US bought us a Toyota Quantum - it's a 14 seater van. Minor problem though - the law over here says that you must have a PDP (Professional Driving Permit) to drive the vehicle, even though it is a private vehicle being used for non-commerical purposes.
To get a PDP here is VERY time consuming - everything moves slowly. ;) It would literally probably take me over a year to jump through all the hoops to get one through the SA system...
However, if you hold an international PDP, this is accepted. I was wondering whether there was any way of obtaining one from the AA, or, who do I need to contact in NZ to discuss?
Thanks for your time,
Jonny
Unfortunately you cannot renew or upgrade your licence while overseas. Most countries limit the time you can use an overseas licence or IDP in their country (normally 12 months). You should confirm this with the SA authorities as you may need to convert your licence to a South African drivers licence eventually. Please see NZTA website for information regarding NZ drivers licence.
