Hi
we bought a new Peugeot 307 in 2007 from the main dealer in Akld.
It was fitted with 17 inch Pirelli tyres.
we had to replace the worn 2 front tyres, and I expected to use the spare as one of these.
However, we were amazed to find that the spare is a 15 inch Pirelli. It is not a space saver wheel.
Would this be normal practice to supply an odd sized spare in a new car purchase?
Or should we insist 5 years later that the dealer replace with a 17 inch tyre?
Thanks for your advice.

This is quite usual practise. It is common to have a generic type spare (most commonly, a steel wheel) when cars have larger alloy wheels. In some circumstances, (eg;when the 17 inch tyres are directional) it is essential to have this type of spare, as it needs to be able to be fitted on either side of the car.

Beware if the 17 inch road wheels are after-market fitment and have replaced 15 inch steel wheels (one of which remains as a spare), as the wheel nuts may be a different profile to the alloys and a different set of wheel nuts must be used. However, if the car was delivered new from the dealer and the 17 inch wheels are factory-supplied with the car, this situation is unlikely to apply, and the spare should bolt straight on with the same nuts.
