Hey. Today I was pulled over for running an orange light. I was with my dad and, apart from the traffic offence, I was in line with any other law. I wasn't fined, but I may have had some demerit points issued. This is my first encounter with the police. I think the police officer said that my qualifying time, the 6 months period, will be reset back to 0. I had already had my learners for 3 months. So, does that mean I must wait another 6 months before I can sit my restricted test? Thank-you.
The NZTA advises us that the demerit points will be recorded against your licence. Only when your licence is suspended will the time be deducted. In your case, at this stage, time will not be reset back to zero. If you reach 100 demerit points then you will have your licence suspended.
