Hi,

I sent a request to AA on 4.7.2012 for advice on my car but disappointingly have heard nothing.

To recap my Golf suffered failure of DSG transmission while I was in Auckland nearly 3 weeks ago. Very inconvenient as we live in Te Puke but AA kindly arranged a tow to Continental Motors for us.

The car has multiple faults from new. Sadly the faults of continued - an absolute Friday car- but the latest problem is big and the part alone is $14,000 !!! This fault with the transmission is widely recognised on the internet and in the big markets such as USA and China VW have come to the party offering 10 year 160,000km warranty on this transmission.

I have been in dialogue with VW and local agent is offering to do labour for half cost and VW NZ re contributing $3000 but still leaves a bill over $9,000. I have lost all faith in the car and am reluctant to spend more money on this faulty car which is likely to break down again anytime soon.

I am not sure if the consumer guarantees act helps but all the service history and problems are documented as is an email to AA in 2006. I really want out of this car and feel the easiest way is to upgrade to a new car with local dealer and VW NZ contributing.

I would appreciate your thoughts - I have the car from new and has full service history.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

John Almond.

Hello John,
Apologies that you have had no response from the AA. Unfortunately, no correspondence has reached me on this matter, so I do not know where it was sent to, but I will contact you to discuss further.
Obviously, elements of the CGA could protect you if the faults have been numerous and on-going, but the strength of the act does diminish with time, so on a 7 year old car, your position will not be as strong as it would have been back when the problems started in 2006.
I will make contact with you today.

(You will note, I have heavily edited your post)
