I am being transferred to Australia for work for 2 years only. I do not really want to go through the full import procedure but would prefer to take my motorcycle from NZ with me, bringing it home again at the end of the two yr period.

Is there any possibility that I can get a carnet extended beyond 12 months? If so, how is this applied for and what is the max permitted period?

A Carnet is only valid for 12 months, however under some circumstances it can be extended for a further 12 months.
