Is a left side mirror compulsory in New Zealand? Do I need one to pass a Warrant of Fitness?

If your vehicle falls under a standard passenger (MA) class the following rule applies:

Before 1/1/200: an external R/H side OR an interior rear view mirror is all that is required.
Post 1/1/2000: an external R/H side AND an interior rear view mirror is required.

Note: A vehicle fitted with overlays (tinting) on the rear side windows and rear screen must be fitted with a left hand and a right hand exterior mirror.
