I am travelling to the UK in a few weeks and understand i need to get an International Driving Permit form the AA to supplement my NZ driving licence.
But does my NZ comprehensive car insurance cover me while I'm away or do i need to arrange specific insurance somewhere
You will need to arrange insurance for the vehicle you intend to use in the UK. Insurance is compulsory in the UK, and it is considered a serious matter if drivers are caught without Insurance.
You could check with your insurer here to see if there is any way you can arrange cover with them before you leave, but if you don't know the details of the vehicle you will be driving, I'm not sure they will be able to help as cars are graded for insurance purposes in the UK..
