I have read your response to a similar question already but would like some clarification.

There is a specific number plate I would like. When I look this number up on a vehicle history report it tells me the registration has been cancelled.

Is the only way of getting this plate by paying an arm and a leg through personalised plates?

Yes, you will need to contact personalised plates to see if the plate is available.

It is not a given that you will be allowed a specific plate from a previously registered car.

Each case is handled on its individual merits.
