About seven years ago I purchased an old mini (registration lapsed in 2002, and we have the Chassis number and one licence plate) for my 13 year old son to tinker with. Shortly afterwards, he found a mini shell in good condition on Trademe, which we then purchased. To my amazement, he has persevered with the project, re-shelling the original mini. It is now at the point where it could be re-registered. We have no record of the licence number of the shell. What is the best way to go about re-registering the vehicle?

The car needs to go through a compliance inspection before it can be registered. You would be better to present the car or, talk to, the compliance staff concerned directly about this vehicle so they can deal with specifics.

The AA has compliance centres in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. For more information email us on aatechnicalservices@aa.co.nz with your contact details or talk to your local VTNZ or VINZ Vehicle Testing Station.
