I am an Australian living in the UK. I will be moving to New Zealand in February until the end of the year for work purposes. I have recently purchased a new Aston and would like to bring the vehicle with me to New Zealand whilst I am there until the end of the year.

Before the end of the 12 months the vehicle will be sent to Australia.

I am an Australian Citizen, with a UK registered vehicle in my name. Your web site currently states that I would need to be a UK citizen with a UK registered car and a member of a UK based automobile club. Can I still bring the car into NZ even though I am not a UK citizen in this case?

Is it possible to join your organisation prior to importing the vehicle.

Really appreciate your help on this. Thank you

The best way to handle this type of Temporary Import – is just that. We suggest you speak with NZ Customs directly, bring the vehicle in as a Temporary Import with the knowledge that it will be re exported into Australia inside the period of one year.

Of course Infrastructure Australia should be contacted re the acceptance of this Vehicle into Australia – a VIA (Vehicle Import Approval) will be required before it gets anywhere near Australia.

It may be a new Aston but Compliance should always be ensured before Shipping from U.K.

We do not believe a Carnet Document would be the best option in this situation, as the vehicle is not going back to the U.K and the Security (bond) required would be very high.
