What is considered a reasonable timeframe under the Act to take the car back to the dealer for repairs? I purchased my car three months ago and have had two major repairs needed since then. The first $600 repair I paid myself not realising I should have gone back to the dealer, but now I have been told about another fault which will cost about the same - am I too late to make a claim? Haven't had the second repair done yet. Am I too late to try and make a claim for the first amount?

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

Under the CGA the Dealer must be given the opportunity to investigate a reported problem and if necessary, have any mechanical defects repaired by a repairer of their choice or, agree to any alternative options the owner may put forward.

You may struggle to get any reimbursement for the first repair because the Dealer concerned was not informed beforehand but it would not hurt to ask the question anyway.

The second fault is a different story and you should make contact with the Dealer concerned immediately and give them the opportunity to investigate, and determine if they have any liability to carry out the required repairs at their cost or not.

Depending on the actual fault and the Dealers reaction would determine whether you had grounds to take further action.
