Do you have any history regarding these vehilces and a known problem whereby water migrates into the transmission fluid resulting in major and expensive repairs to the automatic transmission gearbox? Internet forums indicate that this is a known problem in vehicles around 2005/2006. One discussion on a UK site implies that Vauxhall UK issued a "rework" but I'm not sure what this means, or whether something similar was issued in NZ. It seems to me that this is a (known) fault with these vehicles, does not arise through normal wear and tear or lack of maintenance, so in my view if there is a failure the repair costs should be met by the Holden dealership. Your advice will be appreciated.

You don’t say how the water actually entered the transmission or what the rework consisted of.

For a car of this age it is highly unlikely any out of warranty consideration would apply.

It is not unusual for vehicles to develop ‘common’ problems when they are outside their warranty period.

At times a manufacture will offer some sort of assistance package on a particular fault depending on the vehicles age, mileage and service history.

They do this as a gesture of goodwill more than accepting any liability for a manufacturing defect.
