Hi,

I am interested in what law/legislation governs the recycling of cars here in New Zealand. In Japan there is a specific "Automobile Recycling Law" that sets out the responsibilities of all parties involved. I am having some trouble finding the corresponding law here in New Zealand, and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction (i.e a link to the relevant legislation/act would be awesome).

Cheers.

There are no specific laws governing the disposal or recycling of cars in NZ. The Resource Management Act governs all recycling operations and disposal of hazardous materials, and local councils are responsible for enforcing the RMA and issuing permits. The Scrap Metal Recycling Association may be able to provide more information.

Thanks very much for your reply. I was getting the feeling that there was no specific legislation. I will check the RMA for any relevant information. I think the Scrap Metal Recycling Association was one of the many contacts I sent emails to today.

Thanks again for your assistance!
