Hi Jack,
I have a Indian driver license for car.I would like to convert that to new zealand license.after the theory test I think i will get learners license. Is there any condition for to use this license like need any supervisor with me while I drive or need the supervisor only between 10 pm to 5am like that?. could you please explain the details and conditions of this license?.
When converting an Indian licence to a full New Zealand licence there are a couple of steps that need to be taken.
Firstly, you are required to sit a theory test as you know.
Once you pass that test, you will receive a full licence with a supervisory condition, which means you can only drive with somebody in the car who has held a full NZ licence for more than 2 years.
The second test is the full licence test which needs to be passed in order to drive by yourself.
Is that Supervisor from 10pm to 5 am Because I haven't got friend in New Zealand I have moved here newly so I don't Know anybody here
If you hold a full Indian Licence the test you will be required to sit a theory test (same as sitting a NZ Learners Licence test). When you pass that, you will be issued with a NZ Restricted Licence (ie; not a Full License).
This means that you are required to have a fully licensed driver with you (who has held a NZ Licence for a minimum of 2 years) and you are not permitted to drive between 10.00pm and 5.00am.
However, you do not have to wait to book the practical test as you would if you were a new driver sitting the test for the first time. You can book the practical test straight away, which once passed, gives you a Full NZ Licence.
I am having the Indian licence and i want to convert that into NZ licence. Do I need a licence copy to apply for that. And do you cross check with Indian govt or Indian transport to check the correctness of details of client.
Please reply me asap.
Thank you
Only legal, original licences will be accepted.
I have an Indian licence, do I need to get that to be converted into international driving permit before driving here?
The Indian drivers licence needs to be legal, currently valid and in English. Only then will you be allowed to drive in New Zealand with your Indian licence for 12 months from the date of last entry into NZ. You have to be licensed for the class of vehicle you intend on driving. You need to carry the licence or permit with you at all times when driving.
