I am more than a little annoyed by an incident where my wife was stopped at random and issued a ticket for not producing her driving licence.

In the past we have both been randomly stopped and this is the first time we have encountered this issue. On the day my wife had left her purse at home, something I guess we have all done.

Seems to be a bit of revenue gathering to issue a ticket when a notice to produce it at a police station within 7 days would suffice.

Would this be worth challenging or should we simply just take it on the chin?

This does seem unfortunate, as you say most motorists would have done the exact same thing at some time, myself included.

It is however a legal requirement for a driver to carry their licence when at the wheel, so it is highly unlikely your wife will be let off if she challenges the ticket.

Unfortunately, the best advice in this instance is to pay the fine and put it down to bad luck.
