Dear Jack
I am having a dispute with a Spare parts supplier in Auckland and I live in the Cook Islands and I would appreciate your opinion on the following:
1 / What is your understanding of what would constitute a complete motor? If a customer asks a car wrecker for a complete engine what would he expect to be supplied?
2 / What would constitute an engine assembly.?
3 / What would constitute a long block?
I would appreciate your professional opinion on these matters.
Regards
Don

My interpretation of what these different options mean should not be taken as gospel. Car dismantlers may have their own interpretations of each option so it is always wise to drill down and clarify what each option means before committing to purchase.

A complete motor would, in my mind, be: engine with all accessories such as alternator, starter motor, inlet/exhaust manifolds, throttle body/carburettor/fuel injectors, air-conditioning pump(?), power steering pump etc still fitted.

An engine assembly would be: an engine with the inlet/exhaust manifolds, throttle body/carburettor/injectors fitted only.

A long block would be: the bare engine complete with sump and cylinder head only (no manifolds).
