Hi,
In MBI description there is a "timing chain" in the list of the covered parts. But also there is such thing as "normal wear and tear" which is not covered. How does it work in the situation with a mileage around 150k (Nissan primera 2001) and noise/acceleration problem which was told as "timing chain has to be replaced"? Is there any formal way to separate "wear and tear" problems from covered by MBI in the engine/transmission areas?

Thanks.
Dmitry

Mechanical warranty insurance covers the policy holder against unforeseen failure of a covered mechanical component. In this case the timing chain would have to break or be damaged as a result of another engine failure to be replaced under warranty (in my opinion).

Final decisions are made by the underwriters however and based on what they are told by the repairers as to why certain repairs are needed.

If the chain starts to rattle due to wear and tear then it would be unlikely to be covered under any mechanical warranty policy.

It never hurts to get your repairer to ring the number provided in the policy book and ask the question about warranty coverage before repairs are started.
