Hi,
My vehicle was reversing out of a 45 degree angled park outside of Upper Hutt Mall on the Main Street. My lane was clear of traffic and so I slowly started to reverse out. Small vehicle - a Toyota Ist.
Meanwhile a vehicle who was not in view when I first started to reverse came from the other side of the road and attempted to enter the angled park to the left of my vehicle. My car hit her vehicle close to the drivers door.
This is not well documented anywhere and I feel it is a very unsafe move for any vehicle to enter an angled park from the other side of the road and especially when you cannot generally do it in one manoeuvre.
Can you explain to me why I am in the wrong for this accident as the reversing car? Thanks
Hi there,
I think the key in this satiation is which vehicle was moving, as you have said your car hit their door- then the car moving vs stationary would be at fault. So if you stopped as soon as you saw the other vehicle and they hit you- the responsibility may be reversed.
Thank-you Cade.
