Q1. Is an ABS dash light a reason for wof fail?
My ABS dash light in on but my brakes are fully operational as normal (ie not electrically controlled) brakes. I have driven for many years before ABS was invented and as an ABS issue defaults to normal braking a vehicle without functioning ABS is therefore not unsafe to drive.
Q2. Is disabling the ABS a reason for wof failure?
Repairs to fix the ABS of my 15 yearold car will cost more than the value of an otherwise perfectly good warrantable car.

Hi there,
Yes an ABS braking system warning light illuminated will fail a WoF. You are also unable to disconnect the system without obtaining a LVV specialist certification (which starts @ around $700).
From a WoF point of view, if the vehicle was manufactured with a safety system, then it must work as in tended. You can find the WoF rules on the system here: https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/in-service-wof-and-cof/general/brakes/service-brake-and-parking-brake
