v.kumar17

hi there, I had made a u turn at least 3 to 4 meters before a intersection, at the intersection the going and incoming was red light so the traffic was at a stop so I made a u turn safely after giving way as there was no sign to say u turn is not allowed there, when I made the u turn a vehicle from its driveway reversed, I beeped the horn but unlucky it hit me in front corner side, so the question is the driver of the reversing vehicle claims i am at fault, and for me am unsure if I am wrong or right so I called the cops but they can't come as they r too busy, and I need advise on this so please can you please advise me on this incident. Thanks

Hi I have attached the road rules for both drivers.

As I see it your responsibility would be to make sure road is clear in both directions and it is safe to make a U turn.

And the reversing driver needs to make sure it is safe to reverse.

There are a lot of variable that come into play here and I'm sure more to this story, I would contact your insured to discuss this further.

Making a U-turn
You are normally allowed to make U-turns, as long as the road is clear in both directions and it is safe to do so.
Make sure you have enough room to complete the turn and don’t create a hazard for oncoming vehicles.
You aren’t allowed to make U-turns on a motorway or if a ‘No U-turn’ sign is displayed.

You must follow the guidelines below whenever you are reversing:
Before you move off, make sure it is safe to reverse. The best way to do this is to walk around the vehicle and make sure there are no children or other obstacles in your path.
Don’t rely on your mirrors alone. Always turn around and look over your shoulder.
Try to reverse in a straight line.
