Hi I’m looking at two different Vans. Both with stated issues but looking to try and quantify/ weigh that into my decision.

1) Odometer not spinning. Everything else working fine on the dash.

a. Without obviously seeing the van, is this common / an easy fix. What could be the causes?

b. Google seems to think it could just be a gear problem with the little plastic gear being worn and easy to switch out. If that is the case what would be the cost?

c. What are the legal implications? Do you need an odometer for a WOF? They also claim to have done 12k km approx. since it broke, so when fixing do those get added/ how do they quantify/ validate that?

2) EGR valve broken (2009 nissan vanette). What would be the rough cost to replace?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,
A vehicle must have a working speedometer for a Wof, the odometer is not checked. Once fixed there will not be any certainty as to the exact km's travelled in the meantime so it would not be possible to apply the missing distance to the odometer display.
Both faults would need to be diagnosed and priced at a repairer in order to get an indication of cost, as there are many variables for the fault and repair.

Hi, thank you,

What are the variables for replacing an EGR valve? and ill find them out. I thought it would just be the cost to buy the part and an estimate of labor? but happy to provide more info if needed?

Thanks,

Tom
