Hi. Yesterday I towing my little camper on a rough section of road, several times when the road ahead was clear I crossed the centreline to avoid potholes. However a concerned motorist called the police. I was later stopped by the police and was informed that I will receive a ticket for not driving in my lane. The Police said that I should contact the local council about the road instead of tiring to avoid the potholes. This to me seems the opposite of defensive driving.

Hi there,
It would not be safe for anyone to recommend crossing over the centre line when driving, even to avoid potholes. I would recommend reducing vehicle speed and moving to the left of the road in order to be classed as driving defensively.

Thanks
Unfortunately on a narrow road moving to the left was not an option because that is where all the potholes are. I was already travelling slow because of the road conditions.
