Hi there

We purchased a 2011 SV6 Holden Commodore 137,000 km and $16k price from Turners off their yard not at auction.

The check engine light came on, we had it checked, repaired (minor only) there was an error for the camshaft alignment sensor and computer was cleared, it required 5 litres of oil, yet we had checked the oil 1 month after buying the car - was showing as normal level on dipstick. The next day after collecting the car form the auto electrician, it completely failed requiring a tow and it has now got a diagnosis of a blown engine requiring full replacement, they found bearing material in the filter and the mechanical break down insurance is refusing to cover it. We did not put a claim in yet, only have been gathering information and trying to communicate with the Manager from Turners.

It was not even due for a service as per the policy terms.

Turners have passed the buck to the insurance company.

I feel that the car is not of acceptable quality under CGA. We have had 2 mechanics asses the car - Holden is one of them. They have both said that there is no way we would not have notice an issue with oil eg: leaking on the ground or smoke coming out the exhaust etc. There is no oil leak to be seen on the engine, no oil on either of the 2 spaces the car is parked at daily including work.

Some advice please. We are now looking at a $16k car costing us nearly $40K!

Thank you.

Hi there,
In this case, I recommend using the CGA and speaking with the selling dealer (as long as the vehicle was used for private use not business). It could be considered too soon to have purchased a vehicle from a dealer to experience such a major issue like this.
