I was rear-ended at an intersection when the red light had just changed to green and the cars and I had not moved through the intersection and the car behind me failed to see that we hadn't moved and hit my car from behind. She stopped and would only give me her name and phone number. I took a photo of her rego and this shows the damage to her car. She has since avoided any attempts by AA to contact her and I have been informed by AA that I will have to pay the excess. Is there anything I can do because I don't have a spare $500 and I don't want to lose my no claims bonus on a claim that is not my fault.

Hi there,
It is often with insurance that you must pay the excess to action a claim and only sometimes the Insurance will absorb the excess into the claim with the other insurance party.
But however because you and Insurance won't receive further contact from the other party- and they may not even have insurance, then they can't do anything with the excess.
The only way to recover the excess is to make a claim against the other party for extra losses in a dispute tribunal.

Thanks for the reply. I am wondering why AA Insurance is making ME pay though as the accident is not my fault and isn't that the point of comprehensive insurance and isn't why I pay the extra for it? Seems like comprehensive insurance is a waste of time through AA. I have been to other insurance companies shopping around for a new policy as I no longer wish to be insured by AA after this experience and all of them have said they would not make me pay the excess in this situation so why is AA Insurance the exception? Afterall you say you are the most trusted insurance company as part of your marketing campaign.
