Hi there AA expert,

Just wanting to get some clarity on this topic as there doesn’t seem to a clear guideline or one size fits all approach.

My car was parked and I was standing on the road leaning in to get items - my car door was not open fully. A passing car has failed to see me and the door that’s open and has hit it pealing the door open but not completely off.

My understanding is, there must be a safe distance to drive from parked cars as it’s not like the door was swung open into the traffic with no notice, thankfully no one was hurt.

What’s your take on this and who would be at fault?
