Hello,
I have a query about a parking infringement warning that we received. We live in Lyall Bay, Wellington, and our driveway leads onto a single-lane access road that runs parallel to the two-way main road. There is a footpath along the access road and one on the main road. The car pad at the front of our house is so small that we park diagonally across it (having gained permission from our neighbours to overhang on to their driveway). Our rear right wheel just sits on the edge of the footpath and, as we have a hatchback, there is a small amount of overhang onto the footpath. A large wheelie bin can very easily navigate around the end of the car on the foothpath as can a pram/wheelchair. The front bumper is touching our fence.
Can you please clarify our position? I have googled this but can only find reference to cars being parked completely on the footpath.
Many thanks

Hi there,
The NZ Road User Rule from where the rules are established can be found here: http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2004/0427/latest/DLM303610.html
It says a driver must not stop, stand, or park the vehicle on a footpath or on a cycle path.
