hi
I brought a 2nd hand 2007 Volkswagen golf gt 6 months ago from a dealer for $10k, it has had few issues which the mechanical warranty covered. How ever it also has a stretched timing chain now which the mechanical insurance won't cover. Its only been 6 months I have only done 3000km since purchase (car has done 68000km). Would it be reasonable for me to approach the dealer to fix the issue since the car hasn't lasted like a $10k car should, if he refuses to fix it or swap it, what is the likelyhood I am covered under the consumer guarantees act?
thanks

Hi there,
The question to ask is: Is it reasonable for a 2007 VW Golf GT (taking into account the mileage, condition, and price paid) to have this kind of a fault?
The answer to this will determine if the vehicle has been "fit for purpose" and if the dealer should be assisting you with a remedy. Information can be found here: https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/help-product-service/cars/solving-issues-car-dealer/
